In Support of Today’s Action for Net Neutrality

You may have heard about today’s Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality — also known as the Battle for the Net. That sounds dramatic, and rightly so. Websites, organizations and individuals are speaking out today in defense of “Title II” of the Communications Act, which provides the legal foundation for net neutrality and prevents Internet Service Providers (ISPs) from slowing down and blocking websites, or charging apps and sites extra fees to reach an audience (which they then pass along to consumers).

JW Player strongly supports Title II, as we did during a similar successful initiative a few years ago when net neutrality was under threat.

If the FCC (the Federal Communications Commission in the U.S.) removes the common carrier classification on broadband, many small- and mid-sized publishers will be at a severe disadvantage — and end-viewers will miss out. Most ISPs are also video content providers, so it’s easy to imagine them prioritizing their own content over others on their IP networks. JW Player supports independent publishers and video content creators around the world who aim to deliver the best user experience to their viewers.
