The JW Player team is happy to announce that the JW Player SDK for iOS and Android version 2.3.0 can play VPAID 2.0 interactive video ads in HTML5 on native mobile apps.

In addition, the JW Player SDK for Android now supports multiple track audio and playback of Widevine DRM encrypted videos in the JW Player SDK for Android.

Please read on for more VPAID 2.0 details!

VPAID 2.0 : Interactive Ads in Mobile

On September 2015, JW Player announced support for VPAID 2.0 in JW Player 7.1.  This blog post explained in detail the benefits of VPAID 2.0 over 1.0, how to use it, and listed our ad partners whose VPAID 2.0 creatives we have verified and validated.  A VPAID 2.0 support article was also published that provided a more detailed explanation of how it all works.

I’d like to highlight the chief benefit of VPAID 2.0 : support for HTML5 interactive ad creatives without the need for Adobe Flash. This benefit especially shines for mobile web and native apps since Flash (and VPAID 1.0) is not supported in mobile devices.

Despite the fact that adoption of JavaScript-based creatives has been slow, many ad networks are encouraging their partners, including JW Player customers, to support VPAID 2.0 in both web and mobile. Hence, it has been a popular feature request from our SDK ads customers and we have answered the call by releasing support for VPAID 2.0 in your native apps with version 2.3.0.
